'Gran Torino" playing on PPV
[2009/07/02]
Okay DIRECTV customers if you like Clint Eastwood you are going to love his latest movie Gran Torino. If your not a Clint Eastwood fan as I was not you might just become one after seeing this.
I grew up in a household where my father consistently watched Clint Eastwood movies, I was not a fan. However a few weeks ago a commercial for 'Gran Torino' was on where Eastwood uses the line "Get off my lawn", which to my amusement I then heard my twin boys laugh out loud and say hey, I think that is grandpa on the commercial. So at that point I had to agree slightly ( my dad is a fanatic about his lawn), and was intrigued to sit down and watch it with my husband.
This movie is a raw look at diversity in neighborhoods we sometimes choose to ignore. It is a raw, sometimes crude and barraged with bad language movie that keeps you intrigued from beginning to end. Clint Eastwood at the young age of 78 is not your typical image of a superhero but in this movie I would have to classify him as one ( just not a children's super hero ).
A overview of the movie.
Walt Kowalski is a Korean War Veteran who has just lost his wife. He is a retired auto worker, who actually built his own Gran Torino that he owns in the movie. He lives in an inner-city neighborhood that has been taken over by Asian -Americans, however he has no plans of leaving. Walt is mad at the world, not that fond of his kids or grandkids and just wants to be left alone with his trusty dog. That is until his neighbors son Thao encroaches on Walt's turf by tring to be initiated into a gang by force with stealing Walt's prize Gran Torino. Thao is unsuccesful and Walt ends up rescuing him from this gang. The rest of the movie is built around these two building an usual mutual respect for each other, Walt helping Thao become a respectable young man even with gangs around in the inner city. The movie has its humor in it also and I was very suprised by how much I truly enjoyed this meaning. True Clint Eastwood crudeness in this movie so not appropriate for small children. So some rainy afternoon sit back and enjoy eastwood in HD in 'Gran Torino'
